The first step for “dignified” medical personnel starts from “gentleness”.
“A well-rounded character” and “gentleness” are our watchwords
Physical therapy is an important specialized aspect of rehabilitation treatment, which treats peoples’ physical and mental conditions, using exercise therapy and physical medicine, with the goal of helping them rejoin society. People who are recovering from illness or injury, people of advanced age, and children who are born with congenital disabilities are the patients for whom this therapy is intended.
In order for a physical therapist to attain her/his goals, it is necessary to have good human relations with both the patient and her/his family members, and with the people around patient. Because of this, it is very important for a physical therapist to have not only specialized knowledge, but also good “people skills,” to be able to empathize with patients’ pain and sorrow, and to treat patients with affection.
Occupational therapy deals with the overall life of patients, who have mental and physical disabilities. It aims to help them to live by their own values, rather than just letting them stand on their own. This is why our school’s philosophy of “a well-rounded character and gentleness” is important. Here, too, “social skills” are needed by therapists. Occupational therapy employs a great variety of work activities.
Work activity does not necessarily mean only handicrafts. It means those activities that one does in daily life to taking care of oneself, such as changing clothes, taking a bath, or hand- and face-washing, etc. It considers a person’s job, their way of walking, their hobbies and leisure activities. A therapist familiar with these things can use them effectively in treatment, thereby becoming a very skilled occupational therapist.
